Capital Romance

To us, food is the food of love; we like nothing better than a romantic dinner à deux, and have turned culinary Cupid to find our top three most romantic restaurants in London…

Shepherd’s

A Westminster bistro beloved of politicians might not seem like the most obvious spot for a romantic rendezvous. But think about it – where better than somewhere with a reputation for discretion to carry out your own liaisons dangereuses?

The menu offers an appealing array of classic British and brasserie staples done really well – the ‘Very Good Prawn Cocktail’ lives up to its name and the burger is brilliant – plus the bar turns out some excellent cocktails, perfect for fanning the flames of passion.

Shepherds at Langans

We really love the decor, which blends formality – starched white tablecloths, black and white photos of famous regulars – with mismatched chairs and modern art to create a unique, cosy ambience.

Insider tip: if your date is someone you shouldn’t be seen with – and, of course, we pass no judgment – ask Maitre D’ David to make sure you’re in one of the tucked-away side alcoves!

Bob Bob Ricard

There are many reasons to love Bob Bob Ricard. One of the most unusual, and beautiful, dining rooms in London (designed by David Collins), Bob Bob Ricard resembles the interior of a particularly opulent railway carriage, with polished brass railings, marble floors, huge ornamental mirrors, and subtle twinkling lighting. All tables are booths, meaning that couples can cuddle up and get cosy without fear of other diners’ tut-tutting.

Lovers can push the ‘Press for Champagne’ – there’s one in every booth – order some of the very reasonably-priced caviar (seriously!), and spoon-feed each other while whispering sweet nothings. Make time before or after dinner for a cocktail in the sumptuous red-hued Bobby’s Bar downstairs – it’s our favourite in London and just right for romance.

Randall & Aubin

Sharing is caring and few dishes can be more perfectly suited than a sumptuous plateau de fruits de mer. And where better to enjoy one than at buzzy informal Soho seafood restaurant Randall & Aubin? Don’t be put off by the no-reservations policy; queuing with your date – be they the long-standing love of your life or a new beau with potential – with a glass of wine in hand is all part of the fun. And anticipation, as we all know, breeds desire.

At £40 per head, with lobster an extra £15, it is undeniably expensive. But remember, the best crustacea costs money and at Randall & Aubin you’ll be absolutely spoiled with a mountain of rock oysters, whole crab, Atlantic shrimps, diver-picked scallops, whelks, Cherrystone clams, langoustine, and green-lipped mussels. We had one of their very first dates here and, well, look at us now…!
